Prezi presentations

We were split into pairs and assigned a subject title to create a "Prezi" on e.g ethnicity. We then made notes on other groups presentations.

We had to focus on:
clothing, Setting, camera angle, personality traits and plots they're involved in.

Age
  • Represents how you act and what defines you
Stereotypical ages often include:
  • Baby-These a re commonly associated with being annoying (negative) but also cute and cuddly (positive)
  • Elders- these are commonly seen as being useless/insane
There is however a similarity between being old and helpless young and helpless.

Stereotypical teenagers in the media:
  • Often seen as binge drinkers
  • People with depression
  • People who steal things
Regional identity
stereotypes

Northern people:
  • Can't talk properly E.g "T'pub"
Southern people:
  • City living is seen as grey/monotone
  • people dress sophisticated
Cities:
  • Fast paced
Country:
  • Slow paced
  • "simpler" way of life
  • Farmers seem to live much more relaxed that city goers
Ethnicity
Clothing:
  • "Black" teenagers are stereotypically associated with being unapproachable
  • All Indian families are seen as having to be dressed in traditional clothing
  • Indian family stereotypes include-arranged marriages and being very strict
Setting and camera angles:
  • When filming lower class the camera shot often shoots from below which shows lower class status
  • Setting often includes council estates and run down houses (lower class)
Personality traits:
  • Black male: Stereotypically seen as lazy and unwilling to work
  • Black policemen go against these stereotypes
Sexuality
Clothing:
  • People often think gay people wear tight clothes this is seen in little Britain E.g "The only gay in village"
Setting:
  • Flamboyant/masculine men
  • Dark colours often presented behind them to highlight their sexuality and to make clearer what they are wearing.
Personality traits:
  • Often presented as being well spoken  and have a high pitched voice and a stereotypical lisp
Plots:
  •  Many TV shows/films focus on how people cope with sexuality
  • Also often focused upon is how sexuality clashes with religion
Age (again)
  • Younger children are shown as being technological. This is how people think that children think.
  • Teenagers are shown as being action packed in films and T.V shows to try and reach out to todays teenagers
  • People believe little children are easily led so they are shown good programmes which pomote common decency
  • Young adults are often shown in the media as being goodlooking or even models. This is to show  that the young adult is the ideal age.
  • Old people are shown as weak and moody but often they are the binary opposite and are cheerful and jolly.
Gender
  • The toilet sign shows the clear binary opposite between men and women by depicting women in skirts.
  • Patraichal society
  • The man is shown as saving the women and supportive. Men are seen as stoic.
  • In fights in T.V soaps men are often shown as punching and women are shown as scratching.
  • Audiences are shown T.V shows or films through the "male gaze". Women are filmed with a pan shot showing their body or with a close up ETC
Representation of men tend to focus on:
Strength
Power
Sexual attractiveness
Physique
Independence

Representation of women focus on:
Beauty(within narrow conventions)
Size/physique (within narrow conventions)
sexuality(as expressed by the above)
